Bradshaw's City

In 1862 George Bradshaw released his guidebook to London allowing rail travellers to plan what they were going to see and do on their visit to the City. Join us on this walk running from St. Paul's to Smithfield as we follow in the footsteps of Victorian Londoners and see what was suggested to them.

Starting at St. Paul's Underground Station we look at how much it used to cost to enter the Cathedral and compare it to today's entrance fees. We travel past Stationer's Hall where we will introduce you to the City's livery companies and tell you about their philanthropy. We'll see the highest criminal court in the land, the Old Bailey and tell you about some of the famous trials that have taken place, show you the only public statue of Henry VIII and tell you about some of the bloody history of Smithfield.

The walk ends at the Smithfield Rotunda near to Barbican and Farringdon stations.
