The Men Who Would be King
At 2pm on 30th January 1649 following seven tumultuous years of civil war England became a republic in one stroke of an axe as Parliament executed King Charles 1st as a traitor. This walking tour takes us around Westminster to meet the men who would be King.
Our walking tour starts at Westminster Station where we see the site of the trial of Charles I, King of England and now suspected Traitor. It is unprecedented in English history to try a King for his life. We travel through Westminster to see the site of the King's subsequent execution and the route he took to that final end game.
We'll hear about the efforts his son made to try and save his life, the power behind all three men in their wives and the heart wrenching goodbye that the King had to say to his children the night before his death.
The tour ends at Green Park
